Satellite TV providers have brought enormous entertainment to subscribers, but these have also raised several issues. The glaring example of creating problems is DirecTV, which has been clouded by several controversies and complaints. People have raised many issues that has finally brought to forefront that the satellite TV giant was following unfair business practices to cheat its subscribers.
In fact, for all these malpractices and goof ups, the company has been charged with a huge fine and has been ordered to restitute the grieved since 2007 in full, failing which may result in disastrous circumstances. Many have already complained and others still have a chance to file a complaint. Directv, a leading satellite TV provider in the United States is once again in news, this time for a different reason though. The company has resurfaced other providers in USA, not for its packages and offers, but for another problem. The company is at war with a new trouble faced by one of its subscribers. Among other complaints, this one is also included. Lately, a consumer has alleged that DirecTV doesn’t honors the renewal discount as it promises to. No doubt, we have often talked about DirecTV futile promises!
A long time subscriber of DirecTV, Mr. X suddenly scrutinized the bill forwarded by the company. To his utter surprise, he found out that the bill was terribly high as compared to the entertainment value that it offered. He immediately contacted the customer support representative and proposed that he wanted to discontinue the services.
However, the retention specialist of DirecTV offered him a lucrative deal to stay faithful DirecTV customer. The specialist promised ‘a twelve month $10 discount on bill’. As specified by the specialist, "This will immediately take effect on your current invoice for this month". No doubt, for the same month the bill was lower by $10, however, in the following bill, this renewal discount was not provided.
Immediately, the subscriber called up customer support representative, who turned out to be unhelpful and stated that the subscriber ‘will’ have to pay the amount that is mentioned in the bill. The representative also made it clear that in case Mr. X failed to pay the bill, then $10 will be carried forward to next month making it to $20 and this trend will continue until it is paid off.
This truly disheartened the subscriber, as DirecTV lifted the discount offer on renewing the contract. In fact, if this was the agreement, then DirecTV did not honor the same. Apparently, if I may say, this was a renewal scam!! Or was there some communication problem between the retention specialist and the consumer? Whatever it is, the subscriber is at a loss and an ultimate sufferer. We are looking forward to find some explanation from DirecTV!
